With its long and rich history, meaningful artistic presence, and strong connection to Italian and European cultural life, the Regio perfectly embodies the spirit of creativity and collaboration that FEDORA celebrates.
Since its founding in 1740 as a stage for the House of Savoy, the Teatro Regio has been a landmark of opera and performance. Although the original theatre was destroyed by fire in 1936, its programming continued without interruption in other venues until the current building opened in 1973.
Today, under the supervision of Mathieu Jouvin, the guidance of Artistic Director Cristiano Sandri and Music Director Andrea Battistoni, the Regio offers a rich season of operas, ballets, and symphonic concerts featuring its own ensembles: the Orchestra, Chorus, and Children’s Chorus. Young people and families are the focus of a wide-ranging program that also includes performances and activities for schools, lectures, exhibitions, and guided tours of its remarkable architecture by Carlo Mollino. The Regio is also a premier venue for major international events within the city of Turin’s vibrant cultural life.
